Street Systems

FORM
ACTIVITY
MEANING
PLACE
Exploring the creation of a system using letters from the typeface Circular, my experiment derived from making symbols to represent streets. I created a system where street names could be contained into a single standard square area. This may be beneficial for times when cars read street names rather than human drivers, recognizing these symbols similarly to a QR code. This final system included the street suffix and the first letter of the name on the horizontal axis, and the remaining letters of a shortened version of the street name flipped 90 degrees.
This project explores the current forms of place and contemplates their function. What happens if we change something know to be a standard in place, how does that change our understanding of place and the world we live in?
